What happens if someone more qualified applies?

Rumor on several of the local blogs, out in the blogosphere indicate that there may be several Paramedics applying for the BFD position. How will the Chief justify his friend getting the appointment, when there will be more qualified applicants?

On another front, it is also reported that the Chairman of the BOS has strongly endorsed this move. To the point of throwing a tantrum and insisting that the Mendon Deputy be brought "back home".

Well?

Does anybody have any idea what is going on with the position. The posting date has passed has it not? Are we interviewing candidates for the position? Just wondering.

"FRIEND" !????

Gosh, I didn't know Mark and the "chief" were friends! No really, last I knew, when Mark was a Lt.on the fire department and shortly there after he was a busy little bee, (on Fire Department time at that) running around Town Hall stirring the pot behind the chiefs back, I may add ~ Trying so very hard to make himself look like "God". He constantly back stabbed his "good friend" to make himself look good, in hopes of getting that position. He back stabbed anyone who got in his way too! The chief is so stupid, he doesn't and didn't even have a dam clue. He thinks this guy is his friend, well Mark is no ones friend. When on the fire department he ruined allot of careers with his antics, stopping at nothing. Ask anyone who knows Mr. Mark if he has ever said anything positive about the chief. I think NOT. Mark blamed his back stabbing actions on other good people who were on the department. The chief should get a dam clue - everyone knows that except HIM! Who the heck wants a "friend" like that?

*DUH*

Sweeney can't run a laundrymat never mind a FD.

You're all a bunch of cowards!!

I love some of the comments here from people that OBVIOUSLY work at the station. You can grow them pretty big until you get to work huh? If you feel SO strongly about these concerns, why not take them right up into the Chief's office? Everytime he gets to work you have nothing but praise and "oh let me do this for you Chief", but the second he leaves the room you act like you told him where to go and how to get there. Be the 'big' person you like people to think you are, and go into the office and tell him exactly how you feel. You certainly know how to complain about it on here, why not put your money where your mouth is and actually say it? Oh wait....I know why. It's because you're a coward. If it's really that passionate of an issue for you, than let him know. I think that the problem is since Mr. Poirier left the station, a few people there were able to ride in on a high horse and act like they were 'top dog' so to speak. Now they're scared of getting knocked right back down and being put back in their places. If people think back about when Mr. Poirier was in Blackstone, we had CPR classes on a more regualr basis, he was in charge of getting the KNOX boxes set up, doing Business Inspections, he took an active part in the grant process, and there was MUCH more training then there is now, and the reliability you could only hope for. He is a highly qualified applicant, and yes, if he needed to, he would pass the paramedic course with flying colors.

Finally something from Sweeney's Peanut Gallery

Wow! With the way all the conversations have been going it about time one of Sweeney's boys puts a comment in here. It just suprises me the one of the boys did not do this sooner. If you look at the fire department, you can probably tell exactly who wrote this comment about being cowards. Even though you neglected to sign the article yourself. You probably did run into the fire chief's office to tell him you wrote the comment. HOW COMMENDIBLE!!! WOW! One more time to impress the Fire Chief. Everyone on this site is really proud of your "OPINION" about Sweeney. But to call everyone on this site a coward, just do yourself a favor and look close in the mirror at yourself!

That's because he wasn't

That's because he wasn't even in the country when all this started. Now he's back and right up Sweeney's A**.

PUT IN THEIR PLACE!

Whoever you are did you even read this comment before you wrote it. "Now they're scared of getting knocked right back down and being put back in their places." Why on earth should anyone want to go to work when they are KNOCKED RIGHT BACK DOWN AND PUT BACK IN THEIR PLACES! What place exactly is that. If I was treated this way at work by a fellow employee I would not want that employee hired back either. Is that the type of atmosphere that truly exists in our fire department? If so I am truly sorry for the employees of the Blackstone Fire Department. As a manager myself I treat all my employees with the same respect I myself would like to be treated with. If a manager allows an employee to treat other employees this way this manager needs to be retrained or let go.

Not good for all

A big thank you to you, the writter of "Put in thier Place". The previous writter has a lot to say about nothing. This is not the first time this has happened, on a regular basis, members of the Fire Department make suggestions to improve the conditions within, and as usual they fall on deaf ears. The so called leader has no management skills to say of. He does what he wants and just nods his head when the selectmen tell him what to do. The issue of re-hireing his old friend doesnt even come into play. He is a lousy manager and as the past 2 town administrators have seen, and hopefully the new one is seeing, he should be replaced. The Blackstone Fire Department deserves much better, and so do the people who pay thier salarys.

totally agree

I agree completely w/ "not good for all". The main issue with the FD is the lack of leadership from the Chief. He is in good w/ the BOS, therefore has job security. Rumor has it he is leaving in June and as a taxpayer, from what i'm hearing, it will be for the good that he leaves.

My only next question is... will the town hire from within for the next chief or go outside and hire?? I vote to go outside and hire!

Highly qualified?? Thats funny!

Oh, the guy that crashed the town fire car in Mendon a few years ago while intoxicated and got away w/ it?? The guy that failed the EMT Intermediate course?? The guy that exaggerated and told the Mendon guys he has lots of firefighting experience?? In Blackstone? Fires?? He talks the talk but doesn't walk the walk.
