The Call reports today that the Annual Town Meeting REJECTED the request of Blackstone/Smithfield Corporation's Condo project to connect to and purchase water from the Town.
We want to give the ATM attendee's a tip of the hat for this decision. Congrats to all the usual suspects for their support to keep this natural resource available to the rate payers and those in town. We are sure such a large corporation with the funds to convert the old mill into Condos can certainly afford to either connect to the Slatersville/North Smithfield infrastructure, or perhaps drill their own wells. Folks should feel good about voting this measure down!
We also know that some of the old time folks "remember when" and that Tupperware was "good to Blackstone". However, times change, and the outfit that is developing this property has one thing in mind. How they can develop the property, and make as much money as possible. Regardless of the impact on the neighboring town.
We know this is a blow to Ku-Ku-Katchoo the Mortgage Broker, as now his pals up there in High Rocks probably will cut him out of any of the mortgage business the project would have pushed his way, but once again the inteligent voters of Blackstone have prevailed!

town meeting action on water and BLK.SMITHFIELD CORP.
Oh yes you will hear them say (please please come to the town meeting and cast your vote.....we need you) the (them) would be your board of selectmen and women in Blk. case. So you come out of your home, you cast your vote, feel pretty good for doing your duty, go home. Done deal right? WRONG!! The issue here was the change in use, a total change I might say created by the BLK. SMF. CORP. thats the REAL DEAL VOTERS!!! Now the WRONG deal here or the RAW deal here is this........NOTHING, I repeat, NOTHING has changed. That action by the voters in Blk. along with everything else on that warrant went into effect with the new fiscal year that started on July 1 in the year 2007......well everything with the exception of the WATER question. Now the next question would be of course WHY? The answere must come from the board of selectmen.......but the next question would be WHEN? Would the board of selectmen please answere the WHY and WHEN for the registerd voters of this town that voted on that art. at the town meeting? Failing to that is a violation of the oath of office you all took when elected.....remember that part that said you will up hold the laws and by-laws of the town of Blackstone?
NORTH SMITHFIEL-----------------TUPPERWARE
IS THERE A DEAL PENDING, FOR THE WATER USAGE FOR THE TUPPERWARE SITE?
HAS ANYONE FROM THE TOWN, MADE AN OVERTURE TO NORTH SMITHFIELD LATELY?
WILL THE TOWN SETTLE THIS ISSUE SOON, OR DO WE HAVE TO FILE A CLAIM IN OURT?
here come da judge here come da judge
My answere has to be YES!!!! The judge Judy show has nothing on us in Blk. she could really open up her office in town. Lets watch and see how much more time it takes.....we have been in violation of town meeting action now for 5 months......what the hell would five more mean? I can never remeber any article being left undone in my life after town meeting action!!!! Shame on the office holders for waiting so long........your vote was counted but ment nothing to date!!!! That my friends is SAD!!!
